NAIROBI: 114 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Ruaraka

Police arrested 114 illegal immigrants in Ruaraka area, Nairobi, on Wednesday as part of a citywide operation.

The men and women were from countries including Nigeria, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, said Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli.

Kimeli said their documents will be verified ahead of their arraignment in court today for being in the country illegally. She asked illegal immigrants to get registered.

Twenty three Ethiopian immigrants were separately arrested after they were found hiding in a house in Kahawa West.

Police rescued them from a mob that wanted to lynch them over the killing of a boda boda rider, said Kiambu deputy OCPD Robinson Lyambila.

The police boss said it is believed the immigrants were on their way to South Africa but that their intentions could not be established immediately as they do not speak English.
