At least 83 people were wounded early Monday in a fire in downtown Cairo, state-run MENA news agency reported.

Fire-fighters try to cease the fire started in Sunday night at Attaba Market, the biggest market of Egypt in Cairo, Egypt.

The injured, who suffered suffocation in the blaze that swiped through the Attaba market and several buildings nearby, including a six-story hotel, were listed in stable condition, MENA quoted Health Ministry sources as saying.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
