Why only Generals? Uganda’s Court Martial Head General Karuhanga Dies

Uganda: Another top Uganda’s General and Court Martial chairman Maj. Gen. Levi Karuhanga has died aged 60 at Nakasero Hospital.

General Levi Karuhanga.

According to reports, Karuhanga collapsed and died shortly after he got home from India where he has been for treatment.

Karuhanga has been the person in charge of Gen David Sejusa’s case, where he is charged with absence without official leave, participating in partisan political activities and insubordination.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that the last time Sejusa appeared before court last month, business was suspended citing poor health of Karuhanga as the reason.

He was the only man handling Genaral Sejusa’s case.

The Military Police spokesman, Capt Edward Birungi, who also doubles as the court’s spokesperson, said court would not sit until the chairman gets well. He was admitted at Nakasero Hospital at the time.

“Court business will be at halt until he comes back or until when the President appoints a new one. But the information I have is that he is getting better,” he told media.

“The officers have routine medical check-ups but on the doctors’ advice he was told to remain in the hospital until he gets well,” the court spokesperson said.

But when his condition worsened, he travelled to India, where he has been receiving treatment.

Maj Gen Karuhanga was appointed the chairman of the military court to replace Brig Diiba Sentongo in 2014. We will keep you updated as more details come in.

Late General Aronda.

General Karuhanga is another top Uganda’s General to die in a very controversial style after General Aronda who died last year.

Army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda confirmed the development.

“Sooooo sad, Gen Levi Karuhanga has passed on,” Ankunda said in a tweet. Karuhanga had just returned from India where he had an operation.
