Uganda: Gen Sejusa out of Prison after he was Granted Bail

High Court in Kampala has granted bail to former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen David Sejusa.

Gen Sejusa waves to his well wishers after leaving court.

Sejusa presented by Kampala Lord Mayor-elect, Erias Lukwago and Dr Deo Kizito Lukyamuzi as his sureties.

Sejusa has been in detention since January 31, 2016 when he was arrested for making political statements yet he is still a serving army officer, absence without leave and conduct prejudicial to good order.

Sejusa leaving the court.

In mid-March, High Court judge Margaret Oguli Oumo stayed any criminal proceedings against Gen Sejusa at the Makindye based Court Martial to first dispose of the application in which he is challenging the army for failure to retire him.

Justice Oumo also advised Sejusa to apply for bail in the High Court Criminal division.

He returned to court on Friday for a ruling on his bail application.

Justice Wilson Masalu Musene finally granted Sejusa bail and set him a free man.
