At Least 14 Killed in Heavy Rains in Kenyan Capital: Police Head Confirms

At least 14 people have been killed and many others injured or displaced after heavy rains pounded Kenya’s capital Nairobi Friday night, the police said Saturday.

Local residents try to leave the site of a building collapse in Nairobi, Kenya.

Among the dead, seven lost their lives after a six-storey residential building collapsed in Huruma, in the east of Nairobi, Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome told reporters.

Koome added that 120 others were rescued after the collapse of the building, which housed some low-income families.

Some of those saved were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

Many motorists and pedestrians were also left stranded on Friday, as roads were made impassable due to the downpour.
Rescuers try to monitor the most affected areas.
