Rwanda Gets $18.4 Million Japanese Loan to Improve Power Supply

Rwanda will borrow $18.4 million from Japan to improve the stability and efficiency of its electricity supplies, Finance Minister Claver Gatete said.

The funds will partly go toward building a substation and two switching stations in the East African nation, Gatete told reporters Tuesday in the capital, Kigali.

Electricity demand in Rwanda is increasing 10 percent a year, with the government targeting production of 563 megawatts by 2017-2018.
