Jose Mourinho tactical plan revealed ahead of Manchester United clash with Liverpool

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has given the club’s non-international players time off ahead of their clash with Liverpool next Monday.

United currently trail the Reds by three points after their 1-1 draw with Stoke a week ago.

Mourinho has endured an inconsistent start to his time as United boss, winning four of their first seven league games but losing matches against Manchester City and Watford.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the likes of Luke Shaw, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata were given four games off in order to get them ready for the blockbuster contest at Anfield.

Ibrahimovic retired from international duty with Sweden after Euro 2016, while Shaw was injured against Watford and Mata was omitted from the recent Spain squad.

Morgan Schneiderlin, Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Sam Johnstone were also given time off.

Mourinho’s decision to give his players an extended break mirrors what predecessor Louis van Gaal did during the October international break last year.

Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo were allowed to holiday to Venice and Paris before returning for a 3-0 victory over Everton the following week.

Mourinho has reportedly pleased United’s senior players by giving them a day off after a match regardless of their result.

Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal would demand players return to training the day after a defeat if they deemed it was necessary.
