Ebola New case confirmed in DRCongo

One person has tested positive for the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the health ministry said in a statement this afternoon.

The case was confirmed from tests on nine people who came down with a haemorrhagic fever in Bas-Uele province in the northeast of the country on or after 22 April, the statement said.

A World Health Organisation spokesperson later said that the person infected with Ebola had died.

"It is in a very remote zone, very forested, so we are a little lucky. We always take this very seriously," said WHO spokesman Eric Kabambi.

The last outbreak of Ebola in Congo was in 2014, when dozens of people died.
