CHAN 2018: Hey trails guns at Equatorial Guinea after frustrating Nigeria

Rwanda will return to action against Equatorial Guinea in Tangier, Morocco Friday after Monday’s surprise barren draw against Nigeria in the CHAN 2018 group ‘C’ opener.

Buoyed by the determined display against the West African giants, Rwanda’s coach Antoine Hey is fancying his chances against Equatorial Guinea, who crushed 3-0 to Libya.

“We will adjust our game plan according to what we need,” Hey said.

He knows that a win will enhance their chances of making a second straight quarter-finals appearance depending on how Nigeria will fair against 2014 champions Libya in the other group ‘C’ game of the day.

“On Monday we needed a point, next match against Equatorial Guinea we will need more points,” the former Kenya coach expounded.

Rwanda’s last group outing will be against Libya but that will not distract Hey at the moment as all his guns are trailed at Equatorial Guinea.

“We are taking every match at a time. Equatorial Guinea will be a different match with a different game plan. That’s the match we are concentrating on.

“Libya is far away and depending on the results of the second matches, we will see how many points and goals we will need when we play against Libya in the final game or whether we will need to win it or if a draw will be enough.”

Rwanda produced a virtuoso performance to deny much fancied Nigeria maximum points on Monday and Hey is keen to build on the strong fighting spirit moving forward.

“I’m happy with the way they fought up to the last minute; we are looking forward to continue with the same spirit in the next matches.

“Winning would have been better but the result we got is good enough.”

Rwanda reached the quarters in the tournament’s fourth edition which they hosted in 2016.
