Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez admits he played football in a jail as a child

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has revealed quite how much his football surroundings have changed since his childhood in Chile.

The 28-year-old admits he would sometimes play football in a local jail, going in goal alongside prisoners and generally playing against people older than him.

Sanchez is seen as the archetypal ‘street footballer’ with his aggressive and hard-working style on the pitch, and it’s clear that his days playing football as a youngster toughened him up.

‘I wanted to be a professional footballer from when I was small,’ Sanchez told Arsenal Player.
‘My mental approach was always to win and to go as far as possible playing football.

‘I was always playing in tournaments and initially I played in goal. I was happy as long as I was playing football. I played with older people all the time – many of whom I really liked.
