Ulinzi snatch gold at Military Games

Ulinzi handball team emerged the overall handball winners at the ongoing 10th East Africa Community Military Games and Cultural Events in Kigali, Rwanda.

The team received their gold medal on Tuesday at Amahoro National Stadium after defeating Rwanda 32-26 in the final to joining their cross country team mates who bagged gold on the second day of competition.

Speaking after the medal awarding ceremony, the guest of honour from Rwanda Major Gen Jacques Musemakweli said: “Besides the best team winning, all participating nations were winners in the competitions.”

Maj Gen Musemakweli attributed the success of the games to the cooperation among organisers and the participating nations and congratulated all for the discipline exhibited so far.

Uganda took bronze with Tanzania claiming the handball bronze medal.

The games close today with a closing ceremony that will see Rwanda battle it out with Tanzania in the football final at the Amahoro National Stadium.

Other disciplines in the competition have been netball and basketball with all games ending yesterday apart from football.
