No Worries for Police FC after Beating Mukura FC, Says Coach

Police Football Club beat Mukura Victory 1-0 at home on Sunday to keep the hopes alive as it chases its first ever national league trophy.

The law enforcers played without their five key players; captain Innocent Habyarimana, who is suspended, goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure, left back Ngirinshuti Mwemere, Jean Paul Uwihoreye and Gabriel Mugabo, all due to injuries.

Even then, this seemed a repeat of their previous match when they also beat AS Kigali by the same score without five of their first-eleven players, namely; captain Innocent Habyarimana, midfielders Rashid Kalisa and Imran Nshimiyima, winger Mwemere Ngirinshuti and Gabriel Mugabo.

There was no turning back and no excuse on Sunday when they entertained Mukura at Kicukiro stadium, well knowing that the win would cut their difference with the table leaders, APR by just three points.

Indeed, Andre Cassa Mbungo’s Police kept heads high throughout the match played at Kicukiro stadium.

Defender Fabrice Twagizimana was definitely at work as his alias name Ndikukazi suggests heading in the lonely goal in the 68th minute through a corner kick well taken by Innocent Twagirimana.

A win wasn’t by luck; it was a combination of solid defence, intact midfield that also saw Hegman Ngomirakiza denied by the woodwork to double the lead while Dany Usengimana claim for a penalty after he was fouled inside the danger area, was downplayed.

The win on the sixteenth day increased their tally to 31 points despite remaining fourth on the table.

“The players played very well with an excellent performance… no doubt if we maintain this determination and enthusiasm, we can be sure to finish on the top of the table,” Coach Cassa Mbungo said.
