Tighten your belt: Uganda’s ‘Bad Black’ leaves Luzira Prison next Monday.

The drama that follows Shanita Namuyimbwa only paused while she served her prison sentence at Luzira.

And although she was put there by her then-boyfriend David Greenhalgh for embezzlement, he is in true Bad Black as Namuyimbwa is known on the social scene fashion, involved in her pending release.

The UK-based Greenhalgh has made all arrangements to welcome his ex-girlfriend out of prison in style on March 14 after completing her four-year sentence.

Bad Black was in July 2012 found guilty of embezzling Shs 11bn from DaviShan Company she co-owned with Greenhalgh by the then Anti-corruption court judge, Catherine Bamugemereire.

Her co-accused Meddie Ssentongo who was found guilty of connivance was imprisoned for 18 months and has since walked free, enjoying a lavish lifestyle just like before their incarceration.

According to Bad Black’s brother Edison Kirabira, Greenhalgh has already purchased a posh house for Bad Black in Kansanga.

Her former Munyonyo residence was confiscated to recover court costs when she was in Luzira prison. The Observer on March 1 met Kirabira at Abduz sports shop on Mabirizi Complex, purchasing Bad Black’s items.

Waving a black-sleeveless dress, Kirabira revealed this was likely to be Bad Black’s garment of choice on Monday, because it is black like her name.

“Greenhalgh has given me Shs 20m to purchase four executive dresses, four pairs of good shoes, cosmetics and some jewellery,”Kirabira said while picking out a brown high-heel pair of shoes and a red one.

At the end of the shopping, Kirabira bought four dresses at Shs 300,000 each and four pairs of shoes at Shs 200,000 each and other items he later delivered to the socialite who once turned Kampala on its head with her money-splashing ways.

Some of her supporters said they are overjoyed and are eagerly awaiting her welcome party at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue.

But the chief organiser of the party, who requested anonymity, said the welcome party will come after the Christian Lenten season is over.

When The Observer visited her on March 3 at Luzira women’s prison, Bad Black was visibly overjoyed to be free again. In fact, her biggest regret is jumping bail in December 2012.

“I am coming out a changed lady because I have learnt a lot, including knowing God and finally getting saved,” Bad Black said, quoting Psalm 23.

With a freshly-done hairdo and clad in the yellow prison dress, Bad Black, a former prostitute, said she no longer needs to fall in love with any man save for Jesus and Greenhalgh. During Black’s time away, meanwhile, Greenhalgh had paraded a new girlfriend.

"I’M STILL RICH"

When asked how she is going to resume her life, the beaming Bad Black said money has never been a problem on her side.

She said: “To me, money is not a problem; the only problem is how to spend it. Greenhalgh is still my lover and has been looking after me and my family. I also have Shs 100m which I deposited for my bail, which will be refunded to me”.

To those who don’t understand her relationship with Greenhalgh (they had bitter exchanges and she aired some cringe-worthy linen in public), she said the way European men behave is different from Africans.

Although they disagreed in business, they are still one in their love affairs. Asked what she missed most during her imprisonment, Bad Black mentions her two children Jonathan and Dvina who have been leaving with her mother Masituula Jjombwe in Kawanda.

Black is happy prison life has enabled her to improve on her singing talent, because she has composed an album and plans to hit the studio as soon as she is out.

Her songs are about love, religion, and one is about the way the press misinformed the public about her. Well, well...!
