Next Prime Minister odds have Boris Johnson the favourite after David Cameron resigns

Brexit vote leads to speculation over Johnson, Theresa May and Michael Gove as future successors

Boris Johnson is the favourite to become the next Prime Minister after David Cameron announced his resignation .

Johnson is 11/8, followed by Home Secretary Theresa May who is 2/1. Johnson’s fellow Brexit campaigner Michael Gove is third favourite according to Paddy Power on 6/1.

The betting markets don’t see the leader of the opposition as a significant contender for next PM - after Andrea Leadsom, a Conservative MP who made a number of high-profile TV appearances during the EU referendum campaign.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who was today understood to be facing calls to step down himself from some in his party, has been installed in fifth place with odds of 16/1. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is being offered at odds of 100/1.
