Museveni promotes son to Major General in the army

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has promoted his son to the rank of Major General in the army.

According to a list of the newly-promoted officers sent to all army units, Kainerugaba Muhoozi, who was a brigadier in the Special Force Command (SFC), is now Major General.

Muhoozi is seen as the most powerful soldier in Uganda’s army, and the SFC is considered to be an army within the army.

It has all units of the military such as an infantry, and Air Force.

The unit is responsible for the security of the President, Vice President, and members of the first family. It is also charged with the security of key government installations including the country’s oil fields.
Some have questioned the speed with which Muhoozi has been promoted, as he was made brigadier only four years ago.

General Katumba Wamala remains the head of Uganda’s army.

Museveni was sworn in for a fifth term on Thursday . Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has been arrested on a charge of treason , and has been moved to the main prison in the capital. Kampala.

He rejected the election as a sham.
