Besigye sent back to jail, court to deliver ruling Tuesday

Kampala high court judge justice Wilson Musalu Musene has set tomorrow Tuesday to deliver a ruling on the bail application for the Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye currently on remanded on charges of treason.

Besigye’s lawyers led by Earnest Kalibala while giving out grounds to which court should base on to release his client told court that his client has been on remand since May 13 2016 and that he is of an advanced age at 60 years.

Kalibala also said Besigye has a permanent place of abode and that he will willfully appear in court as instructed and that he has good antecedent substantial sureties

He presented four sureties including FDC party president Gen Mugisha Muntu, Budadiri west MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Rukungiri municipality MP Hon Roland Mugume Kaginda and Lubaga division mayor Joyce Nabbosa Sebugwawo.

However the state prosecution led by Florence Akello objected Besigye’s bail application grounds basing on advanced age saying that his age needs some verification.

Akello also told court that there is fear that he may continue with his defiance campaigns as he did when him and party members defied to the interim order banning defiance activities recently:

Justice Wilson Musene however adjourned court and said he will deliver his ruling tomorrow Tuesday at 9Am.
