Angola: ICGLR Statesmen Reaffirm Commitment to Peace and Development

The Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) reaffirmed on Tuesday in Luanda the strong commitment to the organization’s Pact on security, stability and development and its protocols.

Gathered at the Sixth Summit, the ICGLR statesmen focused attention on the progress of security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Central African Republic (CAR), Burundi, Sudan and South Sudan, recommending the political forces of these countries to commit to peace processes.

In the "Luanda Declaration", the leaders welcomed the resumption of the inter-Burundian dialogue and encouraged the government and the opposition parties to commit themselves to the process.

They called on Burundi and Rwanda to engage in an open and frank dialogue, so as to resolve their grievances through diplomatic channels.

On the DRC, the meeting welcomed the signing of a technical agreement between the government and the UN mission (MONUSCO) and encouraged the joint military operations against the negative forces in the Eastern DRC.
