Team GB stars gather to launch ambitious charity partnership for Rwanda

Trans World Educational Experiences, a sports company based at the Entrepreneurial Spark Edinburgh hatchery, creates sports journeys for young people. It has now announced a partnership with charity, Together in Sport, to provide meals for school children in Rwanda.

With the aim of feeding all 500 school children at the Faith & Hope Academy in the Bugasera community in Rwanda every day for a year, Trans World Educational Experiences will donate a percentage of the cost of every school sports trip to the charity in a bid to make a difference to young lives across the world.

Launching today, the charity partnership is backed by Team Great Britain silver medallists Karen Bennett and Dan Wallace, and Scotland rugby 7’s star James Fleming.

Trans World UK director, Scott Macfarlane, said: “Trans World exists to build global citizens of tomorrow through our world-class travel experiences. The new partnership with Together in Sport is an important part of our future strategy and we want to take our customers with us on this journey – students and teachers will contribute to the cause simply by travelling on a school trip and there will be further opportunities to involve them in our give back too.

“After hearing Kari Spence’s inspirational story, we immediately began conversations to find out how Trans World could support her charity. This led us to where we are today, launching our Global Community Rewards initiative, which rewards our customers for choosing us to take care of their sporting travel needs, whilst supporting the cause of Together in Sport Rwanda.”

Lucy-Rose Walker, co-founder and chief entrepreneuring officer at Entrepreneurial Spark, said: “Scott has worked hard to make Trans World Educational Experiences a credible, backable and investable business and this global charity partnership embodies the #GoDo mindset of Entrepreneurial Spark.

“Together with Sport is a great cause which will make a huge difference to the lives of Rwandan children and I am certain the team will continue to make a positive impact on the business and overall community throughout the world.”

Kari Spence, founder of Together in Sport Rwanda said, “This support is game changing for my charity. It’s a partnership in every sense of the word and gives us the oxygen we need to scale up our support for the children and their families at the Faith & Hope Academy in the Bugasera community in Rwanda.”

Team GB silver medalist, Karen Bennett said: “Together in Sport Rwanda is a small charity doing amazing things. As the name suggests, the charity uses sport as a vehicle to unite people from different backgrounds and improve the lives of those in need. The great thing about the Global Community Rewards initiative is the fact that every child, on every trip, contributes to raising money for the cause.”
