More rain predicted in Rwanda after deadly downpour

Rwanda Meteorology Agency on Monday predicted more rain in different parts of the country in the coming days running up to the end of January.

The weather forecast was released after heavy downpour on Saturday pounded different parts of the country, killing three and destroying over 800 houses in Kigali and upcountry.

There will be average rain with lightning in Kigali, light rain in eastern Rwanda, and light rain with thunder in southern, western and northern Rwanda, John Ntaganda, head of the meteorology agency, said in a statement.

The agency said the weekend rain was attributed to convective heat transfer from the Indian Ocean.

It cautioned farmers against rushing to plant crops, saying the rainy season was yet to arrive.
