25 Rwandan and Congolese Nationals Sentenced to 8 Months over Illegal Entry in Uganda

Uganda: Kisoro Grade one magistrate has sentenced 25 Congolese and Rwandese nationals to eight months in prison over illegal entry in the country.

Court presided over by Kisoro Grade One magistrate Charles Wako heard from the prosecution that the 25 illegal migrants were on 13th April 2016 arrested at Kanaba, near Kabale district without documents allowing them to be in the country.

These will be deported back to their countries of origin after serving their sentences .

Those that were sentenced included Oliver Manilanume , Shilambere Iniciabil, Mubanza Mutakambali , Dieu Isasilika, Kibibi Paul , Bamperekyereze Festor , Nsenganyunva Albert , Ndayambarye Bernard , Keshine Bakurukira , Arakiza Sebagenzi , Nathan Achekema , Sadic Nfitumukiza , Emily Asumani, Jackson Habyayimana, Kamagera Bakavamyo among others.

They were charged with illegal entry contrary to Section 53 and 66 of Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Act.

The 25 pleaded guilty but some of them revealed that they were passing through the country and heading Nairobi to look for work.

While reading the sentence, the magistrate said that this was to act as a deterrent to others. He however deported six Congolese who had children.

They were trying to enter from Uganda - DRC Bunagana border.
