Malaysia: Eight Areas Associated with Disappearance of MH370 being Reviewed

The Malaysian International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annexe 13 Safety Investigation team for MH370 are reviewing eight areas associated with the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The team which is headed by the Investigator-in-Charge comprises 19 Malaysians and seven accredited representatives of seven safety investigation authorities from seven countries.

"At this time, the team is continuing to work towards finalizing its analysis, findings/conclusions and safety recommendations on eight relevant areas associated with the disappearance of flight MH370 based on available information,” said team chief investigator Datuk Kok Soo Chon.

"New information that may become available before the completion of the final report may alter these analysis, findings/conclusions and safety recommendations," he said in a statement at 3pm via a televised broadcast on RTM1.

The eight areas currently being reviewed by the team are:

1. Diversion from Filed Flight Plan Route
2. Air Traffic services operations
3. Flight crew profile
4. Airworthiness, maintenance and aircraft systems
5. Satellite communications
6. Wreckage and impact information (following the recovery and verification of a flaperon from the aircraft)
7. Organisation and management information of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Malaysia and MAS, and
8. MAS Aircraft cargo consignment.

To-date, Kok said the wreckage of MH370 had yet to be found despite the extensive search conducted in the South Indian Ocean.

However, he said a flaperon was recovered in the French island of Réunion on July 29 last year and was identified as a part from the MH370 aircraft.

On March 8 last year, the first Interim Statement and the Factual Information on the Safety Investigation for MH370 were released to the public on the first anniversary of the disappearance of MH370.
