Fireworks Factory Catches Fire in India, 5 Dead and Properties destroyed

At least five people were killed and 12 others suffered burn injures in a fire incident at a fireworks factory in India’s western state of Rajasthan, officials said Wednesday.

The explosion took place late Tuesday evening at Chainpura village of Kota district, about 253 km south of Jaipur city, the capital of Rajasthan.

"In a fire incident at firecracker factory here last evening, five people were killed and 12 others were injured," an official said. "The blaze triggered explosions in the fireworks factory."

India’s state-run broadcaster- All India Radio said the injured were admitted in hospital.

The cause of explosion was not immediately known. However, primary investigations point at mishandling of the combustible material inside the factory.
Accidental explosions are common at Indian fireworks factories.

Apart from factories, many households in Indian villages are making firecrackers illegally for local religious festivals, weddings and other ceremonies.
