Opinion: What is wrong with Miss Rwanda contest?

Last year, during the Miss Rwanda competitions, my sister woke me up and showed me a video of one of the contestants answering a question she had been asked by one of the judges. This contestant’s answer caught fire on social media because of the extremely broken French in which she (barely) expressed herself. I will just go ahead and admit that I laughed uncontrollably and even shared the video with a couple other friends whom I knew would enjoy a good dose of linguistic humor.

Miss Rwanda : A letter to the Beauty Queen

Dear Miss Beauty,

A couple of weeks ago, our very well-read and incredibly outspoken Elodie expressed her thoughts in a carefully crafted article that she titled “What is wrong with Miss Rwanda Contest” (Find Here). After reading the article, I came to the conclusion that she had some good, strong, and thought-provoking arguments, and I promised her that I would reply to her remarks. Dear Miss Beauty, I am in no way, shape or form an expert in this matter, do not know all the details behind the preparation of such an event, my letter to you is a mere reply to Elodie’s thoughts and contains my personal opinions and my expectations from the contest of Miss Rwanda, which you have gracefully chosen to be a part of.
