Uganda: Makerere University Lecturer Behind Bars for Rape

A Ugandan lecturer at Makerere University has been arrested for allegedly raping a first year student.

Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson Patrick Onyango speaking before the press.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says the 58-year old lecturer from the faculty of Natural Sciences is being detained at Wandegeya police station for the above mentioned crime.

Onyango says the rape file against the lecturer [not named] will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) today.

“Police surgeons examined the student and found marks on her body suggesting she was struggling with the don as he descended on her.” He said.

“She was given post-exposure prophylaxis drugs to stop her exposure to HIV in case her attacker was HIV-positive.” Onyango added.

Information we have landed on is that, the lecturer has been using the victim’s elder sister, also a former student at Makerere University.

The accused allowed her to rent his garage in Kikumi-kikumi a local suburb behind the university.

Last week, she forgot to lock her door, an opportunity the don used to sneak in and room and rape her.

However, the lecturer has since denied the accusations.
